LEWIS McDONALD

Lewis McDonald, 80, died in Van Buren County hospital at Keosauqua at 1:30 Thursday morning, April 29. Death was due to a stroke suffered April 12.

For the past 57 years, Mrs. McDonald had operated a dray service at Keosauqua, and was operating it when he was stricken.

A native of West Branch, he was born Dec. 20, 1884, the son of Frank and Josephine Dowell McDonald. he had lived in Keosauqua since infancy.

On July 18, 1906, Mr. McDonald was married to Sadie Elizabeth Dowell, who survives, as do two sons and two daughters: Clyde McDonald and Mrs. James Glen, both of Detroit, Mrs. Ralph Lee of Ottumwa, and Duward McDonald of Keosauqua.

Also surviving are three sisters, Mrs. Rena Nelson, Las Vegas, Nev., Mrs. Harold Elliott of Aurora, Ill. and Mrs. Goldie Sluttz of Ottumwa; 12 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

Rev. E.S. Tschetter conducted last rites at the Methodist church Saturday, May 1 at 2 p.m. Burial was in Purdom cemetery.
