Helfenstine Rites Set

LOCKRIDGE - Russell "Fud" Helfenstine, 73, Lockridge, died at 7:30 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 4, at the Jefferson County Hospital. He had been in failing health for some time and a patient at the hospital the past two weeks.

Funeral services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Raymond Funeral Home with the Rev. Lenwood Monte officiating. Interment will be in Lockridge Cemetery.

Members of the family will receive friends at the funeral home tonight, Monday, from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Russell Helfenstine was born April 4, 1901, near Lockridge. He was the son of J.C. and Laura Case Helfenstine. He was reared and educated in the Lockridge Community. He worked as a dragline operator for the C.B.&Q. Railroad for nearly 24 years before his retirement in 1968.

He was married to Iva Lee Kirkendall July 23, 1966, in Lockridge.

Helfenstine was a member of the Lutheran Church, BPO Elks and Fraternal Order of Eagles.

Besides his widow, he is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Kittie Archibald, Lockridge; Mrs. Myrtle Johnson, Birmingham; three brothers, William, Fairfield; James, Lockridge; Ernest, Greeley, Colo.

Also one stepdaughter, Mrs. George Nupp, Burlington; one stepson, Dave Allen, Concord, Calif; seven stepgrandchildren.
