Wilbur Dale McWhirter

BIRMINGHAM - Wilbur Dale McWhirter, 71, of rural Birmingham, died Thursday afternoon, April 18, 1996, in a farming accident at his farm home.

The service will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Behner Funeral Home, with the Rev. Phil Campbell officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery at Fairfield. Family visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials have been established to Jefferson County Hospital and Jefferson County Heart Association.

McWhirter was born March 19, 1925, in Jefferson County, the son of Ray and Mary McCormick McWhirter. A resident of the Birmingham community most of his life, he attended Fairfield schools and graduated from Fairfield High School in 1942. On July 15, 1944, he married Dora Skaggs in Fairfield.

He was employed as an engineer at Michigan-Wisconsin Pipeline for 33 years before his retirement. He also farmed in Union Township, Van Buren County.

Surviving are his wife for rural Birmingham; a son, Ronald of Fairfield; two daughters, Cheryl Lyon of Libertyville, Carol Hervey of Birmingham; seven grandchildren; a great-grandson; two brothers, Rodger of Burlington and Edward of Batavia. His parents preceded him in death.
