A.V. (ROXIE) LAWSON
STOCKPORT - Alfred V. (Roxie) Lawson, 70, died Saturday at his home near Stockport.
He was born April 13, 1906, in Lee County to William and Charlotte Pickering Lawson. A 1924 graduate of Stockport High School, he pitched for the Detroit Tigers in 1935-36.
He was a World War II Navy veteran and a member of Elvin E. Cecil American Legion Post 141 of Stockport.
His first wife, Blanche Klise Lawson, died in 1957. He then married Ruth Morris, who survivies.
Also surviving are one son, Roxie L. of Muscatine; one daughter, Mrs. Ellen Kleiss; and five grandchildren.
A graveside service will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Dibble Cemetery south of Stockport, with the Rev. David Kennedy officiating. Military rites will be held.
The body is at Burch Funeral Home in Birmingham, where memorial contributions may be left for the Stockport Library.
