CLAIRE STRAIT
Claire L. Strait, 55, of 348 Appanoose, died today at 6 a.m. at Ottumwa Hospital.
Born Aug. 8, 1921, in Keosauqua to Victor Belle Parsons Strait, he was a resident of Ottumwa most of his life and a conductor on the Burlington Northern Railroad, a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars in Creston, O.B. Nelson Post 3 of The American Eagles. He received the Air Medal Citation while serving with the U.S. Marines in World War II.
He married Betty Frederick July 14, 1951, in Monmouth, Ill. She survives.
Also surviving are one son, Larry of Ottumwa; two daughters, Jean Walker of Ottumwa and Joni at home; one grandson; and four brothers, Mike of Fairfield, Keith of Tucson, Ariz., and Don and Warren of Cedar Rapids.
The funeral will be Monday at 1:30 p.m. at the Reece Funeral Home. Burial will be in Mount Moriah Cemetery near Douds.
