J. FRANZ KELLER

KEOSAUQUA - John Franz Keller, 91, a retired farmer, died Sunday at 6 p.m. at the Good Samaritan Care Center in Keosauqua.

He was born June 2, 1885, at Oakville to Joseph M. and Abagial Haight Keller. On Jan. 13, 1913, he married Lena Arnold near Keosauqua. She died in 1925. He married Cornelia Shappell in February of 1927, and she died in 1966.

He farmed in Missouri and in the Keosauqua area for more than 40 years, moving to Keosauqua in 1962. He was a member of the Keosauqua United Methodist Church and the golden Agers Club.

Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Marie Pierce of Milton, Mrs. Emma Kennedy of Mount Sterling, Mrs. Ila Mae Howard of Sacramento, Calif., and Mrs. Martha Wellborn of Donnellson; one son, Joseph of Memphis, Mo.; one step-daughter, Mrs. Edna Lotta of Sacramento, Calif.; two stepsons, Richard Shappell of Los Angeles, Calif., and Edward Shappell of Gilbert, Ariz.; 14 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; six stepgrandchildren; and three sisters, Mrs. Muriel Steinbugh of Cantril and Mrs. Blanche Hale and Mrs. Ruth Apostelic, both of Seattle, Wash.

The service will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Keosauqua United Methodist Church, with the Rev. John Cornish officiating. Burial will be in Purdum Cemetery.

The body is at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua, where contributions may be left for a memorial fund.
