HELEN HENDRICKS

LEBANON - Helen M. Hendricks, 58, died Sunday at 6:30 a.m. at her farm home in the Lebanon community south of Douds, following a lengthy illness.

The daughter of Iska and Edith Carney Duvall, she was born Dec. 5, 1917, near Keosauqua. She graduated in 1936 from Fairfield High School, and taught in rural schools in Van Buren and Jefferson counties.

On May 31, 1944, she married Wayne A. Hendricks. He survives.

Also surviving are one daughter, Eva Mae Farmer of Battle Creek, Mich.; two sons, George of Bonaparte and Iska of Washington, Iowa; four grandchildren; her mother and a sister, Mary Peebler, both of Fort Madison; and two brothers, Charles Duvall of Bettendorf and Gary Duvall of California.

She was affiliated with the Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Birmingham. For several years, she taught in church schools in Ottumwa and Fairfield, resigning because of ill health.

The service will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Lebanon United Methodist Church, with Pastor Fred Schmid and the Rev. Donald Strauch officiating. Burial will be in the Lebanon Cemetery.

The body is at Pedrick Funeral Home in Douds.

A memorial has been established payable to amyotrophic lateral sclerosis research. Contributions may be left at the funeral home.
