BONAPARTE Virgie M. Allen, 82, of Bonaparte died Sunday at 8:10 a.m. at Van Buren County Hospital in Keosauqua following a lengthy illness.
The daughter of William and Floretta Thompson, she was born May 22, 1893, at Winchester, and moved as a child to Bonaparte.
On Aug. 2, 1911, she married Arthur Allen. They farmed near Mount Sterling and returned to Bonaparte where she was a telephone operator for many years. Mr. Allen preceded her in death.
Surviving are two sons, Verle of Wever and Vaughn of Cedar Rapids; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mrs. Grace McNamar of Keosauqua.
She was a member of the Bonaparte United Methodist Church.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Bonaparte Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Scott Holmes officiating. Burial will be Thompson Cemetery southwest of Bonaparte.
Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua is in charge of arrangements.
