D. Bailey dies at 55

Dwight R. Bailey, 55, Route 1, Fairfield, died Wednesday, 12:15 p.m., at Jefferson County Hospital. He had been in failing health six months.

He was born Jan. 15, 1923 in Birmingham, the son of Charles D. and Mary Jo Hendricks Bailey. On Sept. 29, 1946 he married Carol Falldorf.

He spent his earlier life in the Birmingham community. He lived 20 years in the Newton and Lynnville communities where he was an agribusiness salesman before coming to Fairfield in August, 1977. He served in WWII and was a member of First Lutheran Church, Newton.

Surviving are his wife; two daughters, Jo Goodman, Jeanette Bailey and a son, Doug, all of Des Moines; two grandchildren; four sisters, Mary Burnes of Cedar Rapids, Eva Rupe of Montrose, Margaret Heminger of Wood River, Neb., and Patricia Cook of Norwalk. He was preceded in death by three sisters and two brothers.

The body was taken today from the Behner Funeral Home to McLaren's Funeral Home in West Des Moines where services will be held Saturday afternoon. Burial will be in West Haven Cemetery there.
