JOHN GARDNER

John Gardner, 86, Bentonsport, died at 12:35 a.m. Thursday, August 14, 1975, at Sacred Heart Hospital, Fort Madison.

He was born February 4, 1889, in Fairfield, the son of Albert and Mary C. Loving Gardner. He married Annie May Corns, June 12, 1916, in Centerville; she died June 18. He moved from Bentonsport to Fort Madison Nursing Care Center in November, 1974. He was employed by the Santa Fe railroad for more than 40 years as a welder and welding inspector for Pullman cars, and was a member of Moose Lodge, Fort Madison.

Surviving: one son, Newton, Chicago, Illinois; seven daughters Mrs. Geneva Gardner, Bedford, Indiana, Mrs. Wanda Gliwa, Hammond, Indiana, Mrs. Betty Slomin, Mrs. Pauline Warnke, Mrs. Lula Sucholoski, Mrs. Lucy Simeoni, and Mrs. Martha Martin, all of Chicago; brothers and sisters, Mrs. Ray Church, Fairfield, Mrs. Tom Stuckey, Fairfield, Mrs. Tom Gard, Boulder, California, Mrs. Ray Grant, Sun City, Arizona, Mr. Robert Gardner, Mesa, Arizona, Mrs. Flossie Turley, Orange, California, and Mr. A.K. Gardner, Fairfield; and 12 grandchildren.

Funeral was 10 a.m. Saturday, at the Bonaparte Presbyterian Church, Rev. Scott Holmes; Oakland Cemetery, Fort Madison. Miller-Hofbauer Funeral Home, Farmington, was in charge of arrangements.
