Bradford Ellis was born in Bourbon county Kentucky, March 12, 1811, and died June 24, 1885, aged 74 years 3 months and 12 days.
He moved from Kentucky with his parents in 1815, to Harrison county Indiana. In 1833, he was married to Elizabeth Ellis, with whom he moved in 1836 to Des Moines township, Van Buren county, Iowa, where he has resided ever since. His wife died in 1859. In 1860 he married Miss Mary Sellers, who with seven of his children are left to mourn his departure. By his first marriage he had 12 children. Father Ellis was a gentleman after the old school; a good neighbor and citizen, sociable at his home, patient in his affliction and hopeful in his death. The funeral service was conducted at his home by Rev. C. W. Shepherd June 25, and his body was followed to the Boston cemetery b a very large procession which evidenced the esteem in which he was held by his neighbors.
