James E. DUFFIELD

DUFFIELD, HOLLEN, DEHART, DOUD, STUMP, MCINTOSH

James E. DUFFIELD son of C. Edgar and Mary Hollen Duffield, was born February 10, 1893, on the family farm near Pittsburg, and departed this life Thursday, May 21, 1981, at Van Buren County Memorial Hospital in Keosauqua at the age of 88.

He lived his entire life on the same farm where he was born.

On August 13, 1913, he married Nellie DeHart at Keosauqua. She died in 1975. Also preceding him in death were a sister, Inez Doud, in January, 1981 and an infant brother.

Remaining to cherish his memory are his daughter, Esther Stump, of Douds, a grandson, James Stump, of Elgin, Illinois, three great grandchildren, Duff, Sarah, and Danny Stump, a sister, Edith McIntosh of Keosauqua, other relatives and friends.

In addition to farming, Jim was a life-long horseman, making an avocation of training, racing, showing, and judging horses. He was one of the early promoters of the Douds Field Day.

He will be remembered as a devoted father and grandfather, a good neighbor and friend.

Funeral services were held Sunday, May 24, 1981, at 3 p.m. at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua, with Rev. Louise Knupp officiating. Pallbearers were Rex Straight, Verne Downard, Willard Hoskin, Wilbur Snead, James McIntosh, and Kenneth, Carl, and Ralph Doud. Interment was in Pittsburg Cemetery.
