Mrs. Lucy M. Blackburn, 75, wife of Hugh Blackburn, died at 11:17a.m. Tuesday at the Van Buren County Memorial Hospital. She became ill at her home south of Keosauqua and entered the hospital at 9:45 a.m.
She was employed three years as a cook at the Selma School and for a number of years assisted her son in the operation of Blackburn's service station in Selma.
The daughter of Emmett F. and Susie Hollen Morrison, she was born Nov. 13, 1898 in Van Buren County. On Feb. 21, 1918 she married Clifford Blackburn at Mount Sterling. Most of their married life was spent in the Selma community. He died in 1954.
A son, Merle, and several brothers and sisters also preceded her in death. On Jan. 5, 1969, she married Hugh Blackburn at Keosauqua. They resided in the Center Chapel community south of Keosauqua. He survives.
Also surviving are a son, Bruce, and a daughter, Mrs. Helen Lambert, both of Selma; a stepson, Robert Blackburn of Keosauqua; eight grandchildren, several great-grandchildren; and a sister, Minnie Dodds of Clinton.
She was a member of the Methodist church. The service will be Thursday [Sept. 12, 1974] at 2 p.m. at the Pedrick Funeral Home in Douds with the Rev. Donald Strauch officiating. Pallbearers: John Baird, Lester Matheson, Garold Hughes, Stanley Beer, H.Le. Ritz, Richard Aylor. Burial in Center Chapel cemetery.
