Mildred M. Benge

DOUDS - Mildred M. Benge, 59, died Friday at 6:15 p.m. at Ottumwa Hospital of complications following surgery Thursday.

She was born Sept. 11, 1915, near Floris to Ralph and Sarah Thomas McClure. On Dec. 14, 1935, she married William Wallace Benge. He survives.

She and her husband farmed in the Floris community until moving to Douds in 1947.

Survivors include three sons, Ronald LaVerne Benge of Birmingham, William Lawrence (Shorty) Benge of Douds and Donald R. Benge of Eldon; two daughters, Mrs. Marilyn Jeanie Ferguson of Ottumwa and Mrs. Lind Kay Nason of Boulder, Colo.; 13 grandchildren, and two brothers, Vernon McClure of Denver, Colo., and Darrell McClure of Bloomfield, and one sister, Mrs. Maxine Evans of Bloomfield.

Two sisters, a brother and an infant son died earlier.

She was a member of Christ United Methodist Church, United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Douds Temple Pythian Sisters and the Birthday Club. She had served as a 4-H leader, Cub Scout den mother and was active in the Douds Field Day Association.

The funeral will be Monday at 1:30 p.m. at Christ Methodist Church, the Rev. Gerald Caughron officiating. The casket will be taken to the church from the Pedrick Funeral Home at 11 a.m.

The family will be at the funeral will be at the funeral home Sunday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Burial will be in the Floris Cemetery.

Memorial contribution to her church or the Cancer Fund may be left at the funeral home.
