BERTHA BURNS

Mrs. Bertha Burns, 87, of Stockport, Iowa, died at 10:45 p.m. Saturday, March 8, 1975, in Van Buren Memorial Hospital at Keosauqua, Iowa. She had been seriously ill the past week.

Mrs. Burns was born March 4, 1888, in Monroe City, Indiana, to the late James C. and Jane foster Burton. She had been a resident of Lee and Van Buren Counties since 1906.

The deceased was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Fairfield.

On June 5, 1906, she married George P. Sherwood, who died January 5, 1915. At Fort Madison, Iowa, on July 12, 1918, she married Al Burns, who also preceded her in death on November 26, 1949.

Survivors include one son, Kenneth Burns of Garden Grove, California; two daughters, Mrs. Earl (Ruth) Lowry of Ottumwa, and Mrs. Dale (Melva Jane) Workman of Stockport; one adopted grandson, eight other grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren.

Two sons, one daughter, one granddaughter, one great granddaughter, two brothers and two sisters preceded her in death.

Final rites will be performed at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 12, in St. Mary's Catholic Church, West Point, with Rev. Leroy Bergthold officiating. Monday afternoon the body was taken from the Link Funeral Home in West Point to the home of Mrs. Dale Workman in Stockport, where the rosary was recited at 7:30 p.m., and a Christian Wake was held Tuesday evening at 7:30 p.m.
