BLANCHE E. MURPHY

Mrs. Blanche Edith Murphy, daughter of Henry Bordmen and Maggie Taylor Sherod, was born January 21, 1897, east of Birmingham and departed this life Sunday March 2, 1975, in Keosauqua at the age of 78.

Most of Mrs. Murphy's life was spent in the Mt. Zion and Keosauqua communities. She attended Keosauqua High School and was Valedictorian of the Class of 1917. On January 3, 1918, she married Earle N. (Pat) Murphy at her parents' home. She and Pat lived in Oklahoma for several years where was an engineer in the oil fields. They returned to the Sherod family farm in 1932. Her husband preceded her in death in 1964, and she moved into Keosauqua in 1968.

Remaining to cherish her memory are her sister, Mrs. Margaret Price of Madison, Conn., a niece, Mrs. Barbara Gillespie also of Madison, a nephew, Rev. Duane Muphy of Modesto, California, two great nieces, and two great nephews. Also surviving are several cousins, including Mrs. Betty Stutsman of Fairfield who was her close friend and confidant, other relatives and many friends.

In addition to her husband, her parents, a sister, Grace, and an infant sister preceded her in death.

Blanche was a lifetime member of the Mt. Zion Presbyterian Church and its Ladies Aid Society, a fifty year member of the Order of Eastern Star in Vinita, Oklahoma, and an active member of the Daughters of the American Revolution; Beer-Barker Unit, American Legion Auxiliary; Van Buren County Historical Society, and the Delphian Study Club, all in Keosauqua. She will be remembered for her devotion to her parents and her husband during lenthy illnesses and for the active role she played throughout he rlife in the work of he church and community.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, March 5, 1975, at 2 p.m. at the Mt. Zion Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Harold Schnedler, pastor, officiating. Mrs. Clyde Dille was the pianist. Interment was in the Miller Chapel Cemetery. Arrangments were in charge of Pedrick Funeral Home, Keosauqua.
