Howard Harvey Miller was born March 15, 1874 on a farm near Bonaparte, Iowa, and passed away at his home on his farm in Roscoe township, Davis County, Iowa, September 12, 1932. He was the second son of James W. Miller and Alvira Meeker Miller. His elder brother, Robert M. Miller, preceded him in death, at Santa Monica, California. His mother died when he was 11 years old. His father aferward married Alice Eich of Bonaparte, Iowa, to which marriage were born four children, two sons and two daughters. Eich Miller, now of Milton, Iowa, was born near Bonaparte, and the Miller family then moved to a farm near Milton, Iowa, after which three children were born. Charles G. Miller, now of 1130 Clinton Avenue, Des Moines, Iowa; Agnes Lindsey now of Pulaski, Iowa, and Bertha Miller, who lives with her mother, Alice Miller, on the home farm near Milton. His father, James W. Miller, preceded him in death in 1918.
He attended the public school and graduated from the Milton high school in 1895, after which he attended the Capitol City Business College, Des Moines, Iowa. He always loved the farm and enjoyed the raising of cattle and other stock and spent his entire life on the farm in Iowa except one year in California.
On June 29, 1898, he married Virgia Power, and they moved to their farm in Roscoe township, Davis County, Iowa, where they resided at the time of his death.
There were born to this marriage, three children, Grace Lucille, who died at the age of 5 months, James D. Miller, who now resides at Vancouver, Washington, and Genevieve Hammerly, who now resides at Fairfield, Iowa.
He ws a member of the Methodist church at Milton, Iowa; a member of the Masonic Lodge at Milton, Iowa, and Siroc Chapter of Royal Arch Masons of Milton and was a Knight Templar of the Commandery at Keosauqua, Iowa.
The funeral held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 14, at the home in charge of Rev. H.F. Gilbert of Cantril, and Rev. W.b. Ireland, of Milton. Burial in Milton Sunnyside cemetery.
