Thomas Brewster McIntosh was born in Tazewell county Virginia, September 12, 1817, and died at his home in Vernon township, May 6, 1897, in his eightieth year. With his parents he came to Van Buren county in the fall of 1839.

June 13, 1852, he was married to Rebecca E. Fitzgerald, and to them were born eight children, four boys and four girls, all of whom with his bereaved companion survive. [James M., Addison, Mrs. Curtis Anson, George S., Mrs. P.D> Newman, John W., Mrs. George Matheson of Keosauqua, Mrs. George V. Barker of Mt. Zion.]

About 1847 the deceased united with the M.E. church at Center Chapel, where he ever since held his membership and lived a consistent christian life. He had not been in good health for some years, and died of heart trouble after an illness of about ten days.

The funeral was conducted by Rev. Hiram Gilbert at Center Chapel where a large number of friends assembled to pay their last respects to an esteemed neighbor. Thomas McIntosh was a quiet, industrious man, of marked integrity and uprightness, a good citizen, neighbor, husband and father. By industry and frugality he had accumulated sufficient for this world's needs, and leaves his widow in comfortable circumstances. He demise removes one more name from the gradually declining list of original old settlers of Van Buren County.

I am related and this Obit. is in an old family scrapbook.
