Susan A. Henry was born in Vernon, Van Buren Co., Iowa on November 25, 1851, and departed this eartly life at Des Moines, Iowa, to enter her heavenly home, September 1, 1912, attaining an age of 60 years, 9 months and 7 days. She was the youngest daughter of Sylvester S. and Ora G. Henry, who preceded her to the Great Beyond a few years ago.
She was united in marriage to Charles N. Murphy in 1878 and to this union were born three children, Mrs. Sallie Ill, Mrs. Alice Hill of Des Moines, Iowa and Sylvester S. of Somers, Iowa. She leaves to mourn her death a husband, three children, also two sisters, Mrs. Emily Philips of Ottumwa, Iowa, Mrs. Ora A. Kays of Hyattsville, MD., and two brothers, S.F. Henry of Bonaparte, Iowa and Volney Henry of Milton, Iowa, beside numberless friends.
She was a loving wife and mother, believing as she lived, that it was her duty to make her home a pleasant one, to educate her children to the best of her ability, and to teach them the way of right from wrong. She was afflicted with paralysis in Nov., 1902, leaving her an invlaid, though a patient sufferer until the Savior called.
She united with the Presbyterian Church of Bentonsport, Iowa in 1902, and lived a christian life awaiting the summons from Him above who saveth "Come! The work is o'er".
