Charles N. Murphy, son of Thomas and Martha Jane (Carter) Murphy was born near Bonaparte, Iowa, Feb. 28, 1855 and died July 28, 1924, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. H.B. Ill, Des Moines, Iowa, attaining the age of 69 years and 5 months. He was united in marriage to Susan A. Henry who preceded him to the Great Beyond September 1, 1912.

To this union were born one son, S.S. Murphy of Knoxville, Iowa, and two daughters, Mrs. Sally Ill of Des Moines, Iowa and Mrs. Alice Hill of Toledo, Ohio. He is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Alice McIntosh of Des Moines, Iowa and Mrs. Mary Stickling of Spokane, Wash., four brothers, Wm. H. of Bentonsport, Frederick N., of Bentonsport, Iowa; Frederick N., of Keosauqua, Iowa; Joseph A., of Harrison, Nebr.; Allen G., of Brook Park, Minn., and six grandchildren. His illness was a short duration during which time his children were at his bedside.

His life was spent in Van Buren County with the exception of the last three years which were spent in Des Moines.

Funeral services were held at the J.E. McDermott Funeral Home, Des Moines, Iowa, July 29, 1924. Burial in Glendale Cemetery.

He was a member of the Presbyterian Church and the I.O.O.F. Lodge at Bentonsport, Iowa.
