At his residence in Vernon township, three miles north of Mt. Sterling, on Saturday night June 4, 1892, Mr. Hector B. Shriver, aged 76 years, 11 months and 15 days. The deceased was born on the 19, day of June 1815, in Armstrong County, Pennsylvania. On March 23, 1838 he was united in marriage to the companion who preceded him to the better world on November 12, 1888.
He was the father of nine children; of these six are dead; two died in early infancy, two after reaching womanhood's estate, and two sons, Andrew and George, members of the Second Iowa Infantry, fell in the famous charge made by that regiment on Fort Donelson during the late war.
The surviving children are his daughter, Mrs. George Dehart, and his sons, John and William, all living near the old home.
Early in life Father Shriver united with the Presbyterian church and in this communion he died. For many years there was no church of his choice in his vicinity, but during that time he associated himself with the Methodist church and with that people he at all times worked earnestly for the davancement of God's kingdom on earth.
His funeral occurred from the Center Chapel M.E. church on Monday forenoon June 6, Rev. C.w. Wilson officiating.
