Sarah Warren was born June 12, 1845, in Wexford County, Ireland, and died December 29, 1894. She came to Iowa in 1853 and was united in marriage to Samuel Hearn, September 8, 1868. There were four children born to them, all of whom are still living.
She united with the Methodist Episcopal church in her twelth year, and was an active and energetic christian woman, alive to all the interests of Sunday school and church. She was a true friend of missionary work, a faithful worker in the local branch of the Womens' Foreign Missionary Society, the members of which society attended the funeral in a body. She served for many years on the official board as one of the stewards. She made herself useful especially in visiting the aged, the sick and the poor, rendering aid wherever needed.
For about a year she had been greatly afflicted not being able to attend church but once or twice in that time. From her childhood she had been a very close Bible student and had become very proficient both in knowledge and use of God's word. She is spoken of my members of the church as the best posted in the Bible of any person in the community. Her familiarity with the scriptures suggested to the pastor the text for funeral discourse which was Psalms 119:105. "Thy word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path."
The funeral service was held in the Methodist Episcopal church, Koesauqua, January 1, 1895 at 2 p.m.
