Iolene Fahrner Burkett, 85 of Keosauqua died Dec. 7, 1991, at St. Luke's Hospital in Davenport.
She was born July 27, 1906 in Santa Rosa, Calif., to Albert E. and Minnie Scott Page. She married Leslie Fahrner July 18, 1922, at Woodland, Calif. He died. She then married Fred Burkett July 27, 1982.
She had lived in California and Columbia, Mo., before moving to Van Buren County in 1933, where she and her husband owned and operated the Cantril Register newspaper. They moved the paper to Keosauqua in 1936 renaming it the Van Buren County Register. They ran the paper until 1946. She later served as secretary of Van Buren County Selective Service Board. She was a member of Mount Zion Presbyterian Church, Lynds Chapter of Order of Eastern Star, Beer-Barker Unit American Legion Auxiliary, and White Shrine all in Fairfield.
She is survived by her husband; a son, Jack Fahrner of Dallas, Texas; a daughter, Betty Hart of Moline, Ill.; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a sister, Iola Rhyne of Honolulu, Hawaii; six stepsons, Delmar of Salt Lake City, Utah; Larry of North Oaks, Minn.; James of Everett, Wash.; Doyle of Bellevue, Wash.; Michael of Boise, Idaho, and Lyle Burkett of Farmington; a step-daughter, Annette Wade of Raymond, Wash.; 19 stepgrandchildren; and three stepgreat-grandchildren.
The service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua, the Rev. Harold Schneder officiating. Burial will be in Forbes Cemetery north of Keosauqua.
Family visitation will be 7 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society or Forbes Cemetery and may be left at the funeral home.
