Eugenia D. Payne was born in Mercer county, Ill., April 20, 1902 and died at Cantril, Iowa, March 15, 1919, aged 16 years, 10 months and 15 days. When a small girl she moved with her parents to Iowa county, Iowa, and from there to Alcona, Mich., later in 1915 moved to a farm near Cantril.

She leaves to mourn her death her father and mother; two brothers, Wm. and Charles; three sisters, Sarah, Marguerete, Leota Edna and Selma Irene and many other relatives and friends. Eugenia had a loving disposition and made many friends wherever she went. She has left a place vacant in the hearts and home of her friends, who look forward to a happy meeting in that land where sorrows are no more.

The pallbearers were six young men, returned soldiers in their uniforms. The honorary pallbearers were her school mates. She was laid to rest in the Maple Grove cemetery near Cantril.
