Miss Mildred Lee Hixson

Miss Mildred Lee Hixson, 94, passed away at Lakeview Rest Home in Forsyth, Mo., Feb. 15, 1973, where she had resided for the past six and one half years.

She was the daughter of John Scott and Dulcy Roe Hixson, born near Hillsboro, Iowa, on Nov. 19, 1878.

After having lived all her life on the farm where she was born, except for the past six and one half years, she moved to Forsyth to be near her sister, Mrs. Phoebe Lewis.

Early in life she became a member of the Baptist Church in Hillsboro, Iowa.

Miss Hixson was a talented musician, having taken her training at the music academy in St. Paul, Minnesota. She gave piano lessons for miles around her home, traveling to the many homes in a horse-drawn buggy.

In later years, she faithfully cared for her mother and father, her older sister, Daisy, and an invalid brother, David. She was also preceded in death by her younger sister, Mrs. Phoebe Lewis, and two brothers, Tyler and Burnett.

She is survived by one sister-in-law, Mrs. Burnett Hixson of Galt, Mo.; three nieces, Mrs. Helen Keck of Birmingham, Iowa, Mrs. Barbara Dorgan of Forsyth, Mo., and Mrs. Virginia Kohler of Marblehead, Mass.; five nephews, Benn Hixson of Douglas, Wyo., John Hixson of Galt, Mo., Charles Hixson of Black Springs, Nev., Harvey and Harold Hixson of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; and a host of great nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

Services were held Monday, Feb. 19, 1973 at 2 p.m. at the Baptist Church in Hillsboro, Iowa, with Rev. Lester Smith officiating. Mrs. Forrest Fuhrer was organist.

Pallbearers were Leland Johnson, Fred Duncan, Dale Coleman, Burch Boley, Wm. Whitaker and John R. Newbold.

She was laid to rest in the Hillsboro Cemetery in the family plot.

Lee Hixson

Miss Lee Hixson, 94, former Van Buren County resident, died Thursday, Feb. 15 at the Lakeview Rest Home in Forsyth, Mo., where she had lived the last seven years.

She was born Nov. 19, 1878 near Hillsboro to John and Dulcy Roe Hixson. She is survived by several nieces and nephews, including Mrs. Helen Keck of Birmingham.

The funeral was held MOnday, Feb. 19 at the Hillsboro Baptist Church, with the Rev. Lester Smith in charge. Burial was in the Hillsboro Cemetery. Catcott Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.

A memorial fund to purchase children's books has been estbalished at the Hillsboro Library.
