J.A. Campbell

James A. Campbell, 62, Ottumwa educator, died suddenly Saturday Feb. 17 at 2:45 p.m. at his farm near Birmingham.

A former resident of Jefferson and Van Buren Counties Campbell was preincipal of Pickwick Elementary School in Ottumwa. He had served in the Ottumwa school system since 1954.

Services were held Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. at the Johnson Funeral Chapel in Ottumwa with the Rev. James Russell officiating.

Masonic rites and burial were in Evergreen Cemetery in Fairfield.

Campbell was born Sept. 24, 1910 at Milton, the son of Ray and Nellie Allender Campbell. He received his BA degree from Parsons College in 1947 and his MA degree from Northwest Missouri State University in 1951.

He was married in 1936 to Patti Page, who survives. Also surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Betty Everett, Ottumwa; his mother, Mrs. Nellie Hess, Stockport; a sister, Mrs. Milo Anderson Stockport; and four grandchildren.

Campbell was a member of the Kilwinning Lodge No. 98, AF&AM, Batavia; and Kappa Delta Pi honorary fraternity. The family would appreciate memorials to the heart fund.
