Mrs. Fred Johnston

Mrs. Effie Ellen Johnston, 82, died at 1:50 a.m. Dec. 26, 1972 at her home in Libertyville. She had been in failing health about four months.

She was born Aug. 7, 1890, in Jefferson County, to Hugh and Retta Crooks Carmichael. A graduate of Fairfield High School, she taught in rural schools in Jefferson and Van Buren counties.

She married Fred L. Johnston Feb. 19, 1912, in Stockport. He died April 15 of this year. She attended the Libertyville and Mount Zion United Methodist churches.

Surviving are three sons, Walter at home, Howard of Nashville, Mich., and Frank of Wilmington, N.C.; four daughters, Mrs. Elinor Fordyce and Mrs. Rex Swan, both of Libertyville, Mrs. Myron Carlson of Mount Union, and Mrs. Thomas Corlett of Davenport; 18 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; a half sister, Mrs. James Nixon of Stockport, and a step-sister, Mrs. Roy Caster of West Milton, Ohio.

Two great-grandchildren, two brothers and one sister also preceded her in death.

The service was held Thursday, at 1:30 p.m. at Raymond Funeral Home in Fairfield, conducted by the Rev. Ross Winner. Burial was in Fell Cemetery near Libertyville.
