Frank Hoenig, Sr.

Frank Hoenig, Sr., 72, of West Point, died unexpectedly at 4:30 p.m. Dec. 20 in Sacred Heart hospital, Fort Madison. He had been ill only a few hours. He was born June 21, 1900 in Ft. Madison, the son of Frank and Anna Brachlaught Hoenig. he married Mary Johana Schroeder Sept. 5, 1923 in St. Joseph's Catholic Church Ft. Madison. He was a lifelong resident of Lee County and a retired farmer.

He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church at West Point and it's Holy Name Society.

He is survived by his wife, five sons, Frank Hoenig, Jr. of Bonaparte, Rev. Gerald Hoenig of Ft. Madison, Albert Hoenig of Keokuk, Ralph and David Hoenig, both of West Point; four daughters, Mrs. Richard (Jean) Helling, Mrs. Robert (Bernadette) Cramblit, Mrs. John (Ruth) Beelman, all of Ft. Madison and Mrs. Lester (Gretchen) Joachim of Downers Grove, Ill.; two brothers, W.J. (Casey) Hoenig of Ft. Madison, Richard Hoenig of Spokane, Washington; one sister, Mrs. Charlotte Landon of Lometa, Calif.; 30 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.

Funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 12 at St. Marys Catholic Church, West Point. The Rev. Gerald Hoenig officiated. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery, West Point. The rosary was recited at the Link Funeral Home, West Point, Monday evening by the parish and followed by the Holy Name Society.
