William C. Clayton

William Clarence Clayton, son of George and Minnie Mussetter Clayton, was born July 18, 1888, on the farm where he resided all his life in Chequest Township, south of Douds. He departed this life Sunday, Oct. 1, 1972 at the Kirk Nursing Home in Agency at the age of 84.

He is survived by his widow, Lydia, a daughter, Mrs. Christine Turner, son-in-law Gene Turner, and two grandsons, Duane and Kenneth Turner of Douds, a step-daughter, Mrs. Marguerite Casady of Las Vegas, Nevada, a cousin, LeVere Lentz of St. Louis, Mo., and a host of friends.

Clarence was a long time member of the Lebanon United Methodist Church, Jackson Lodge No. 47 Knights of Pythias of Milton and the Van Buren County Farm Bureau. For many years he was associated with the Van Buren Mutual Insurance Association, having served as President, Adjuster and Director.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Oct. 3, 1972, at 11 A.M. at the Lebanon United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Gerald Caughron and the Rev. Earl D. Kelly, pastor, officiating. Honorary pall bearers were Montie McQuoid, Rex Peacock, Raymond Rider and Herbert Megrath. Active pall bearers were Hollis Wells, James Zeitler, Max Williams, Varold Davis, Melvin Sandy and Ellsworth Buckles. Interment was in the Lebanon Cemetery. Arrangements were in charge of the Pedrick Funeral Home at Douds.
