Sarah Ann Rader was born Nov. 30, 1817 in Highland County, Ohio; departed this life Arpil 24, 1906 at the age of 88 years. She was married in Ohio in 1836 to Ellis Jones. With her family she moved to Keosauqua, Iowa, in 1855 which has since been her principal place of residence. For two years previous to last Aug. she made her home in Richland, IA, with a daughter, Mrs. Ella J. Funk, who came with her mother to Keosauqua last August and remained with her to the end. Mrs. Jones passed away at the residence of another daughter, Mrs. G.W. Davidson, in Keosauqua and was laid to rest in the Fellows cemetery. Funeral services were held in the Christian church, conducted by Eld. Chas. Lawrence Wheeler, assisted by Rev. P.H. Hawk and Rev. J.W. Carson. Sister Jones united with the Baptist church at the age of 13. Thirty-one years ago she united with the Christian church in Keosauqua where she remained a faithful member.
Mrs. Jones had eight children, all of whom are living: Mrs. G.W. Davidson, Mrs. Margaret Seaman, Keosauqua; Mrs. Ella J. Funk, Richland, IA; Mr. Isaac Jones, Des Moines; Mrs. Rachel Bixler, Ind. Ter.; Mrs. Mary E. Courtright, Idaho; Mr. George Jones, Burlington, Kansas; Mr. Luther Jones, Fruitdale, Ohio. In addition to her eight children, she leaves 38 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. The deceased was truly a noble woman, with a heart devoted to her family, loyal to Christ and full of love to humanity. She loved God's Word, it was food for her soul and was her constant companion in life and her Bible was appropriately placed in her casket, held by those fingers that had so often thumbed its worn pages. Truly a good and useful life on earth is ended. Of her we may say: "Life's race well run, Life's work well done, Lifes crown well worn, Now come rest."
