Clarence B. Baxter

Clarence Burley Baxter, 56, of 321 W. Fifth, was dead on arrival at 12:10 a.m. Sunday at Ottumwa Hospital.

He was born Aug. 5, 1915, at Cedar, the son of Joseph and Martha Musick Baxter. A lifetime resident of the area, he was employed by John Morrell & Co. for 17 years, prior to retiring April 1, 1967, because of ill health. He was a member of the East End Pentecostal Church of God.

On Jan. 9, 1936, he married Doris Grade of Oskaloosa. She survives as do three daughters, Mrs. Joan Durflinger of Fremont, Mrs. Carolyn Wareham of Ottumwa, and Mr. Sandra Durbin of Hedrick; one son, Dennis of Ottumwa; 10 grandchildren; two brothers, John of Ottumwa, and Clifford of rural Blakesburg. One brother and one sister preceded him in death.

The service will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Fremont Funeral Chapel, Fremont, conducted by the Rev. Loyal Hepker. Burial will be in Cedar Township Memorial Cemetery, Fremont.
