Milton veterinarian Doc Andrews, is dead

MILTON - William L. (Doc) Andrews, 77, Milton area veterinarian, died Saturday at 6:10 p.m. at Davis County Hospital in Bloomfield.

Dr. Andrews attended St. Joseph, Mo., Veterinarian College and began his veterinary service in Milton on May 12, 1921. He served a wide area, including Douds, Keosauqua, Mount Sterling, Cantril, Pulaski, Troy, Bloomfield and Scotland County, Mo. He had been veterinarian at the Davis County Sales Co. in Bloomfield for 34 years.

Dr. Andrews was a member of the national, state, eastern Iowa and southeast Iowa veterinarian associations, serving the eastern Iowa group as president in 1954. He had given programs and was a clinician for the various organizations.

Most active in community service, he was instrumental in working out the rural fire program in the Milton area.

He was born March 13, 1897, at Urbana, Mo., to Mark and Mary French Andrews. On Jan. 24, he married Katherine Kastendick at Billings, Mo.

Surviving are his widow; onen son, Charles of Milton; six grandchildren, including Carol Jean and Peggy Andrews of Sioux City, who had lived in the family home; one brother, Ray of Flemington, Mo.; and four sisters, Mary Brown of Maxwell, Calif., Zada Wilton of Columbus, Kan., Amanda Holt of Buffaolo, Mo., and Emma Little of Urbana, Mo.

The funeral will be Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. at the United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Dale Church officiating. Burial will be Sunnyside Cemetery.

Wellborn Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
