HENRY PEACOCK

Henry, son of Clark and Esther Peacock, was born March 15, 1852, in Laancster [sic] county, Pa., and died at his home near Lebanon, Iowa, Nov. 17, 1933, at the age of 81 years, 8 months and 2 days.

In 1855, he moved with his parents to Van Buren county, Iowa, and located near Pittsburg, where they made a home for themselves. His father died in 1871 when Henry was 19 years old, leaving much of the care of the mother and younger children to him. He was a kind and affectionate son. His mother died in 1916. Of the nine children, three survive him, Mrs. Anna Bonar of Milton, Mrs. Lizzie Kirkendall of Burlington and E. W. of Stone City.

June 6, 1889, he was married to Miss Minnie A. Warner of Cantril, and began housekeeping near his old home where they have since resided. To this union were born eight children, 6 sons and 2 daughters: Lynn, Rex, Bates, William, Bion, Mrs. Claude Pittman, Mrs. Dwight DeHart and Paul. Lynn and Paul died in infancy. He leaves to mourn his departure his wife, 6 children, 13 grandchildren, 1 brother and 2 sisters, besides a number of other relatives and friends.

He was a man of good judgment and wide acquaintance. His pride was in his home and family and he was always glad to welcome visitors in his friendly, cheery way which won for him many friends who familiarly knew him as Henry. He gladly did many things for enjoyment. He was an extensive land owner, a successful farmer and stockman and was always keenly alive to the interests of the community. He was a good neighbor, a loving husband and a kind and indulgent father.

Funeral services were conducted in the home on Sunday afternoon, Nov. 19, by the Rev. Geo. H. Smith, M. E. pastor of Lebanon church. Appropriate songs were sung by Mr. and Mrs. Claire Muir, Florence Brown and LaRue Wilson. Keith Gaston sang a solo. The floral remembrances were profuse. Interment was made in the Lebanon cemetery.

Does the Henry Peacock who married Ethel Mable Ritz (1882-1979) fit into this Peacock lineage?
