Robert Stansberry

FAIRFIELD - Former Libertyville area resident Robert L. Stansberry, 66, of Lakewood, N.J., died the afternoon of Jan. 15, 1985, at Kimball Medical Center in Lakewood.

He was born Jan. 11, 1919, near Libertyville to James and Rhea Byers Stansberry. He lived in Lakewood for five years and Toms River, N.J., for 22 years after his military career. A medic during World War II, he was a retired warrant officer, first grade. He served 20 years with the U.S. Navy, before retiring and becoming a standard bred race horse driver, trainer and breeder at the Freeholt Raceway in Freeholt, N.J.

He is survived by his mother, Rhea Ecklund of Birmingham; two sons, Robert L. and James E. of Lakewood; two daughters, Linda Altieri of Toms River and Cheryl Ryan of Dover, Del.; six grandchildren and one great-granddaughter; a brother, John of McAllen, Texas; and three sisters, Kathleen Brumm and Jeannie Dodds of Fairfield and Thelma Roland of Birmingham.

The service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Behner Funeral Home in Fairfield, the Rev. David Kennedy officiating. Burial will be in Fell Cemetery near Libertyville.
