John Russell

John E. Russell, 72, of 118 N. McLean Street, died at 4 p.m. Oct. 23, 1984, at St. Joseph Hospital.

He was born Jan. 18, 1917, at Wapello, to Elijah and Nellie E. Seitz Russell. he moved to Ottumwa in 1961 from Drakesville. He was an employee of John Morrell and Company, retiring in 1973. He married Arbeulah "Boots" Davis on Aug. 21, 1971, in Chicago.

He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Barbara Gourdet with the U.S. Army in Germany, and Linda Davis of Ottumwa; three sons, John Russell of Ottumwa, Harold Russell of Bloomfield, and Barney Paytes of Burlington; 13 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mabel Brown of Ottumwa; Two sons preceded him in death.

The service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Reece Funeral Home, with the Revs. Max Gaffield and Harley Schull officiating. Burial will be in Iowaville Cemetery near Selma.

Pallbearers will be Richard Gaffield, Carl Dean Savings, Wayne and Edward Crawley, Harold Pherigo, and Randy Van Dyke.

The family will be at the funeral home from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday.
