Edna Mendenhall

Mrs. Leslie R. (Edna) Mendenhall, 84, 604 East Clay, Mt. Pleasant, died Wednesday, Dec. 22, 1982 at the Mapleleaf Healthcare Center.

She was born Oct. 18, 1898 at Birmingham, the daughter of Wyatt and Minnie Lewis Thompson.

On June 1, 1925 in Burlington, she married the Rev. M. Leslie Mendenhall, who survives.

She taught school at Fairfield and New London and country schools near New London and Columbia. She was a member of the Calvary Baptist church in Mt. Pleasant.

Surviving are her husband, Mt. Pleasant; two sons, Leland, Columbus Junction and David, Springfield, Mo.; eight grandchildren, four great grandchildren and a sister, Mrs. Esther Champ, Bonita, Calif.

Her parents, one brother, Harley, and one sister, Edith Thompson, preceded her in death.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 27 at the Calvary Baptist Church with Pastor Earl Swigart and the Rev. Daniel Whitcher officiating. Interment will be in the Forest Home Cemetery.

Friends may call as desired after 9 a.m. Sunday at the Weir Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends from 1-4 p.m. Sunday afternoon.
