DR. G. A. THIEME
Gustavus Adolphus Thieme, son of Michael and Christina Thieme was born at Keokuk, Iowa, January 14, 1869, and died at his home in Cantril, Iowa, January 16, 1926, aged 57 years and 1 day.
He spent his boyhood days at Keokuk, being graduated at the Keokuk Medical College in 1893. He came to Cantril in 1895 and for thirty-one years he has endured bravely and patiently the hardships that come to a practicing physician.
On June 30, 1895, he was united in marriage with Christina Kuebler of Keokuk. To this union five children were born, Gustavus Adolphus, Helen Sophia, Florence Christina, Ruth Augusta and Clara Eva.
Dr. Thieme confessed Christ in 1909 during an evangelistic meeting held by Paul E. Wright, uniting with the Cantril Christian church and remaining a member of this church until death.
He was also a member of the Masonic fraternity, being raised to the Sublime Degree of a Master Mason, February 15, 1900.
He leaves to mourn his departure, his loving campanion [sic], Mrs. G. A. Thieme of Cantril; five children, Gustavus, of Sterling, Colorado; Mrs. Helen Hines of Keokuk, Iowa; Mrs. Florence Casady of Cantril; Mrs. Ruth Simmons of Burlington, Iowa and Miss Clara Thieme of Keokuk, Iowa; three brothers and one sister, Carl of Greely, Colorado; Henry of Keokuk, Iowa; Otto, Grass Valley, California; and Christina Schieble, of Keokuk. also five grandchildren, many other relatives and a host of friends.
Dr. Thieme is gone but he will not soon be forgotten in the community where he has practiced for more than three decades. Coming from sturdy German stock, he possessed an excellent mind and a strong individuality, being a diligent reader he was well versed in many subjects. He was naturally of a kind and cheerful disposition and his quaint philosophy of life will not soon be forgotten by those who knew him. His passing has cast a gloom over many homes and the community at large joins in sympathy with the bereaved family.
Funeral services were held at his home in Cantril, Monday afternoon, January 18th, Elder H. C. Shaw officiating, assisted by Rev. A. M. Smith, pastor of M. E. church. Short services were also held Tuesday afternoon at the home of his sister, Mrs. Christina Schiebel of 520 S. 13th St., Keokuk.
