Bessie May Mead, eldest daughter of Charles E. Mead and Elizabeth Perkins Mead, was born in Des Moines, Iowa on November 20, 1875 and passed away at her home southwest of Bonaparte, March 19, 1944 at the age of 68 years, 3 months and 29 days. She grew to womanhood in Des Moines and attended the schools of that city.

She united with the Capital Hill Christian Church when a young girl.

She was united in marriage to William Roberts of New London, Iowa, September 15, 1919, after coming to Henry County where she joined the Beulah Methodist Church. They moved to Van Buren County in 1918 and since have resided on the farm where she passed away.

She is survived by her husband and three sons, Arthur W. Roberts of Bonaparte, Julius W. Roberts of Cedar Rapids and Keith Mead Dearinger of Cantril, a son by a former marriage, one brother, Charles T. Mead of Gary, Indiana, seven grandchildren and several nieces and nephews and many friends
