HUGH E. THORN

Hugh E. Thorn, 73, of Mt. Sterling, Iowa, rural route, died Wednesday, Oct. 4 at 7:05 P.M. in St. Joseph Hospital, Keokuk, after a lengthy illness. He was seriously ill 4 days.

He was born April 18, 1894 in Sullivan County, Mo., the son of William and Nancy Ann Piercy Thorn.

On June 12, 1916 at Unionville, Mo., he married Ava Ann Trent. She survives.

He was a resident of the Mt. Sterling community 12 years moving there from Keokuk. He was a retired farmer.

Besides his widow, he is survived by 5 sons: John W. of Unionville, Mo., Herbert L. of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Kenneth E. and Fred, both of Keokuk and Edgar Le of Fort Madison; a daughter, Mrs. Daniel (Elizabeth Ann) Liggett of fort Madison; a sister, Mrs. Murl Stender of Macon, Mo., and a brother, Jasper Thorn of Keokuk, 18 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 sons, 2 sisters, and 2 brothers.

The funeral service was held Saturday, Oct. 7, at 2 p.m. in Miller's Home For Funerals in Farmington with the Rev. Harold Schirm officiating. Burial was in Christy cemetery at Acasto, Mo.
