ORVAL N. SMITH

Orval N. Smith, 66, died suddenly about 7 a.m. Monday, June 12 at his home at 900 W. Grimes, Fairfield.

A 50-year resident of Fairfield, Smith was employed by the O'Neill Coal, Sand and Rock Co. for 16 years before his retirement.

He was born March 20, 1901 near Birmingham, the son of Frank and Nellie Carter Smith. He was married to Ada Whitaker Dec. 6, 1924.

Surviving are his widow and the following children: Mrs. Wanda Ross, Fairfield; Gene Smith, Millersburg; and Paul Smith, Fairfield.

Six grandchildren and the following brothers and sisters also survive: Carroll Smith, Fairfield; Loren Smith, Birmingham; Willis Smith, Des Moines; Mrs. Goldie Pruden and Mrs. Hazel Burrows, Fairfield; and Mrs. Pearl Stone, Vallejo, California.

Smith was a member of the Church of the Nazarene. He was preceded in death by two sons, one daughter and one brother.

Services were held Wednesday, June 14 at 2 p.m. at the Church of the Nazarene with the Rev. C.E. Stanley officiating. Burial was in Memorial Lawn Cemetery.
