Ora E. Steeples

Ora E. Steeples, the son of Harry Steeples and Elva Hetfel, was born at Mt. Sterling, Iowa, August 18, 1902, and died at the St. Joseph Hospital in Ottumwa April 6.

ON July 2, 1929, he was united in marriage with Alpha Wiegner of Donnellson.

He received his education in Van Buren County and was a graduate of the Farmington High School and of Parsons College, Fairfield. He received his Masters Degree in Education at Northeast Missouri State College, Kirksville.

He began his teaching career in Lee County rural schools, then taught 13 years in the Donnellson grade school and 3 years in the Boone school system, returning to Lee County where he was county superintendent for 3 years. The last 12 years he has been assistant principal of the Washington Junior High School at Ottumwa.

He was a member of the Methodist Church at Ottumwa and for many years taught a Sunday School class. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Ottumwa.

He is survived by his wife; one daughter, Mrs. G.O. (Betty) Johnson, of Ft. Lee, N.J.; two sons, Gary E. of Ottumwa and Larry Allen of Milwaukee, Wisc.; one sister, Mrs. Joe Iuchas of Quincy, Ill.; a son-in-law; daughter-in-law, and a host of friends.

Funeral services were held at Jay's Funeral Home, Ottumwa, at 4:00 p.m. Monday, April 8. The Rev. Stanley Woeste of the First Methodist Church officiated.

Burial was in the Evangelical cemetery, Donnellson.
