Nellie Strong

Nellie Belle Strong, daughter of William and Mary Wolfe Blackburn, was born Feb. 15, 1891, in Van Buren County, Iowa, near Keosauqua, and passed away Nov. 14, 1968, at K.O. Hospital, after suffering a stroke about three weeks ago.

She was united in marriage to Philip Strong Aug. 27, 1912. To this union were born 9 children, six daughters and 3 sons, one son, Ivan, dying in infancy.

She leaves to mourn her passing the 8 children, Dorothy Frueh and Hila Lamb, both of Ottumwa, Iowa, Evelyn Justice of Berrien Springs, Mich., Hazel Drummond of Santa Fe Springs, Calif., Nellie Belle Howard of Avon, Ill., Donna Ve Gould of Cahokia, Ill., Neil Strong of Memphis, Mo., and Harold Strong of the home; 19 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Jennie Perkins of Keosauqua, Iowa; other relatives and many friends.

Mrs. Strong was a loving wife and mother and placed the welfare of her family above everything else.

Funeral services were held Sunday, Nov. 17, at 1:30 in Gerth & Baskett Chapel, Memphis, with Rev. Howard Merchant officiating. Burial was in Chapel Center Cemetery, Van Buren County, Iowa. Body bearers were Donnie Frueh, Bob Frueh, Dwane Howard, Ronnie Howard, Jim Flanders, Dennis, Richard and Stanley Strong.
