Nellie G. Mingus, daughter of James and Julia Livesay Shaddock, was born July 29, 1878 at Bladensburg, Iowa and died Sunday, Dec. 22, at the Van Buren County Memorial hospital in Keosauqua at the age of 85. She had been hospitalized(sp) for 18 weeks.

She was married to Elza Smith and their life together was spent in Wapello county. Mr. Smith died in 1918.

She later married Millard J. Mingus and they lived in Ottumwa and Wichita, Kan. They operated restaurants and hotels until they retired to Lebanon in 1949. Mr. Mingus passed away in April of 1958.

A son, Lloyd Smith and a daughter, Mrs. Merle Salmon, also preceded her in death.

Survivors are one daughter, Mrs. Doris Harrison of Lebanon; one son, Carlisle Smith of Blanding, Utah; one granddaughter, Mrs. Paul Megrath of Milton; one grandson, Kenneth Salmon of Gig Harbor, Wash. and four great-grandchildren, Kurt and Renee Salmon and Duana and Edward Megrath; other relatives and a host of friends.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, Dec. 24 at 1:30 p.m. at the Pedrick Funeral Home in Douds with the Rev. G. Basil Tadlock, Methodist pastor, officiating. Interment was in the Eldon cemetery.

Nellie G. Mingus

Nellie G. Mingus, 85, died Sunday afternoon, Dec. 22, at Memorial hospital in Keosauqua where she had been a patient for 18 weeks.

Services were held Tuesday, Dec. 23 at 1:30 p.m. at the Pedrick Funeral home, Douds, in charge of the Rev. G.B. Tadlock. Bearers were Herbert Megrath, Clare Muir, Bruce Brown, Hazen Beeler, Paul E. Johnston and Raymond Ryder. Interment was in the Eldon Cemetery.

Mrs. Mingus was born July 29, 1878 at Blandensburg, the daughter of James and Julia Livesay Shaduck. She was married to Elza Smith who passed away in 1918. She later married Millard J. Mingus and they resided in Ottumwa and Wichita, Kans. They returned to Lebanon in Van Buren county in 1949. He died in 1958.

Mrs. Mingus is survived by two children, Mrs. Doris Harrison, Lebanon and Carlisle Smith of Blanding, Utah. Two grandchildren also survive. A son, Lloyd Smith and daughter, Mrs. Merle Salmon, preceded her in death.
