Mrs. Will Michael

Bessie Mae Michael, daughter of Samuel and Elizabeth Spencer, was born March 18, 1872 in Van Buren County and departed this life Tuesday, Dec. 31, 1963, at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Centerville at the age of 91.

As a young lady she taught school in Van Buren County. In 1893 she was married to Will Michael of Selma. They lived on the same farm near Selma for over fifty years. Mr. Michael passed away in 1948. For the past 12 years Mrs. Michael had been a resident of the Stanton Home for the aged at Numa.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two daughters, Mafra May Michael in infancy and Mrs. Willa Stump in 1963.

Remaining to mourn her passing are three daughters, Mrs. Edna Fairfield of Minatare, Nebr., Mrs. Beatrice Nason of San Manuel, Ariz. and Mrs. Elnora Cox of Seymour. Also surviving are a brother, Harry Spencer of Pocatello, Idaho; 18 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services were held Friday, Jan. 3, 1964 at 2 p.m. at the Selma Methodist Church, with the Rev. G. Basil Tadlock, pastor, officiating. Vocalists were Mrs. Ralph Lepper and Mrs. Bruce Blackburn, accompanied by Mrs. Garold Hughes. Grandsons served as bearers. Interment was in the Iowaville cemetery near Selma.
