JOHN M. SPRINGER DIES IN OTTUMWA

John M. Springer of Keosauqua died Friday, September 29, at the Chatfield nursing home in Ottumwa, where he had been confined for several onths(months). Mr. Springer was suddenly taken ill a week previous to his death.

John Springer was born August 11, 1862, in Brownsville, Pa. He spent most of his life there. At the afe(age) 18 went to work for his father who owned one of the oldest mercantile business establishments in Brownsville.

He remained in business with is father until the latter's death, whereupon he continued the business until he retired in 1927. He was succeeded by his oldest son, J. Paul Springer, who still conducts the business in its original location.

The deceased was a member of the Central Presbyterian church where he was a life-long member. He was a member of the board of elders, and served as superintendent of the Sunday school for more than 25 years.

Following the death of his wife in 1934, Mr. Springer came to Keosauqua to make his home with his daughter, Mrs. J.W. Rinabarger. He enjoyed living in Keosauqua, and made many friends both in town and the church.

He is survived by three sons, J. Paul Springer of Brownsville, Penn.; Charles H. Springer of Bradford, Penn., and James R. Springer of Belle Vernon, Penn.; two daughters, Mrs. J.W. Rinabarger of Keosauqua, and Mrs. Guy S. Mayberry of Chattanooga, Tenn.; four grandchildren, Richard, Ruthana and Louise Springer and Jan Mayberry.

Funeral services were held at the Ross funeral home in Brownsville, Penn., Tuesday afternoon, October 3, at 2:30. Interment was made in the family plot in Bridgeport cemetery.
