WILLIAM S. HARGROVE

William Silas Hargrove, son of James and Mary Hargrove, was born Dec. 30, 1867, in Jackson township, Van Buren county, Iowa, and died at his home northeast of Milton, May 7, 1943, at the age of 75 years, 4 months and 17 days.

He was united in marriage to Effa May Pickens at Troy, Iowa, on Nov. 28, 1894. To this union five children were born.

He became a member of the Methodist church at Milton in his youth and has always taken an active interest in the church, the community and neighborhood.

Mr. Hargrove spent his entire life in this community within a radius of a few miles and at the time of his death he still owned and operated the old family homestead on which he was born. His neighbors will always remember him as a thoughtful and cooperative friend.

He was active in Farm Bureau work and for several years served as county president of that organization.

His wife, an infant son, James Leonard and a small daughter, Musta, preceded him in death.

He leaves to mourn his passing three daughters, Mr. Vivian Pederson of Spencer, Wisc., Mrs. Lela Robinson of Boyd, Mont., Mrs. Veneta Findley of Milton, seven grandchildren and other relatives and friends.

The funeral was held at the Milton Methodist church Sunday afternoon conducted by the Rev. J.C. Behrens. Burial was at the Sunnyside cemetery.
