Death Comes at 101 to Mrs. Mary Hays at Milton

Mrs. Mary Hays, 101, Van Buren County's oldest citizen, died Sunday, Feb. 25, at 9:15 p.m. in the W.H. Roby home at Milton where she had lived for six years. She had been ill two weeks.

She was born June 15, 1860, on what is known as the Foley Glasgow farm a the edge of Milton. She was the daughter of Milton and Martha Blanchard McManis. Her entire life was spent in the Milton community.

She became a member of the Milton Christian church in 1882. On June 22, 1879, she was united to Asa Hays. To this union was born one son, Horace, who died July 5, 1931.

The funeral service was held Tuesday, Feb. 27 at 1 p.m. in the Milton Christian church, Pastor Lowell Paulson officiated. Burial was in Sunnyside cemetery at Milton.
