Nathaniel Jackson Claman was born in Scott County, Virginia, Jan. 14, 1901, and passed away in Milton, Iowa, May 23, 1961. He was the son of Robert and Rosie Doran Claman.

In September of 1928, he was united in marriage to Carrie Louise Suhrbier, who preceded him in death in 1934. On June 10, 1943, he was married to Alice Leona Cargile, who survives.

Nat had lived in the Cantril community for 11 years, where he was engaged in farming. He had served his country in the United States navy.

Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons, Carl of Mt. Sterling, and George of Clare, Iowa; a daughter, Mrs. Bertha Poggey of Ft. Dodge; a step-son, Ralph Cargile of Keosauqua; his father, Robert Claman of Gilmore City; seven brothers, one sister; nine grandchildren; many other relatives and friends. An infant daughter, Carrie Louise, a brother and three sisters, preceded him in death.

Memorial services were held at the Cantril Christian church, May 24th, with Herbert C. Shaw, minster of the church, officiating. Vocalists were Mrs. Jim Charbonneau and Mrs. Maynard Manske, accompanied by Mrs. H.C. Shaw. Another service was held in Gilmore City, May 26th. Burial was in Marble Valley cemetery at Gilmore City.
