Derr King

Derr King was born Nov. 15, 1894 at Mt. Hamil, Ia., the son of John R. and Mary Alice Mackey King and passed away very suddenly of a heart attack at 11:15 a.m. Monday, Jan. 16, 1962 while clearing snow at his farm home south of Hillsboro, Ia.

King had lived in the Hillsboro area all of his life and was a retired farmer. At the time of his death he was in the insurance business. He was president of the Federal Land Bank at Mt. Pleasant and vice president of the Peoples Mutual Insurance Company at Donnellson, Ia. For a number of years he had been assessor of Cedar Township.

He was united in marriage on Dec. 12, 1917 to Grace Boley of Hillsboro, who survives, as do two children, Willard of Ft. Madison and Mrs. Gilford (Darlene) Gilbert of Farmington. There are several grandchildren. His parents preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be held at the Sharon Presbyterian Church Thursday, Jan. 18 at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Marvin Janssen officiating, assisted by Rev. Charles Grooms of Hillsboro, who will also be soloist. Burial will be in the Sharon Cemetery.
