Elta A., daughter of Hubert and Clara H. Fitzgerald, was born on Dec. 26th, 1873, near Center Chapel in Van Buren county, Iowa, and was called to her eternal home in the early morning hours of Friday, August 7th, 1925, aged 51 years, 7 months and 12 days. One sister Ida, died when a young girl. She was converted when only 11 years old in a Baptist church but afterwards united with the M.E. church in Bentonsport, Iowa, and subsequently transferred her membership to Center Chapel. She was an active and devoted christian. For many years she taught the primary class in the Sunday school. She was president of the Ladies' Aid for years and held that position until her death. She was a teacher in the schools for fifteen years, some of them in rural schools and also in Bentonsport school and in the Bonaparte high school. She was a very efficient and successful teacher and many got their educational start in life under her tuition.

She was a member of the Daughters of Rebekah and manifested great interest in the work and progress of that sisterhood. On Feb. 6, 1906, she was united in marriage to John W. McIntosh. She leaves to mourn her loss, her loving husband and four step-sons, Curtis and his wife, Harry and his wife, Arthur and Floyd, and two grandchildren. One brother survives, Elvin, who lives at Walnut Ridge, Ark., and two half-sisters, Mrs. Rhoda Alexander of Rochester, Wash., and Mrs. Bertha McIntosh of San Miguel, Cal., three uncles C.P. McIntosh of Milton, W.M. McIntosh of Farmington and S.M. Fitzgerald of Gardner, Mont. She will be sorely missed in her home and by the membership of Center Chapel and the Sisters of the Rebekah lodge of Keosauqua and a great host of friends.

"Servant of God, well done;
Rest from thy loved employ;
The battle fought, the victory won,
Enter thy Master's joy."

Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. G.H. Smith (former pastor,) assisted by Dr. W.R. Keesey, on Sunday afternoon, Aug. 9th, at Center Chapel. Appropriate selections were sung by the choir and by request of the deceased Rev. Smith sang one piece. The floral rememberances were very profuse. Interment was made in Center Chapel cemetery. The Daughters of Rebekah performed their rites at the graveside.
